Grown in Italy and hexane-free extracted in France, the floral absolute of Spartium junceum is rare, costly, and tenaciously aromatic. Genet Absolute, also known as Broom, is a truly exquisite specimen composed of exotically sweet, honeyed rose-like floral notes. A must-have ingredient for the most sophisticated artisan perfumers and fragrance connoisseurs. Genet has the unique ability to round out rough edges in fragrances — even the smallest amount can delicately smooth and anchor just the right notes. By orchestrating all perfume notes into a symphonic balance, it's no wonder why Genet is known as the secret ingredient to fix, smooth, and enhance all notes in any fragrance blend.
According to Steffen Arctander, Genet Absolute "is one of the most generally applicable of all floral absolutes since trace amounts will yield perceptible improvement without being noticeable as a 'perfumery' note." He also describes Genet "with an intensely sweet, floral-haylike fragrance. The deep herbaceous-coumarinic background has great tenacity. The honey-rose notes are particularly useful in certain types of rose bases, tuberose, cassie, mimosa, violet, honeysuckle, etc. It blends excellently with ionones, vetiver, castoreum, etc. in 'tabac' notes, and it is generally useful in modern aldehydic perfume types, green notes, etc."
Genet Absolute used in perfumery, is produced only from the botanical Spartium juneceum, the sole species in the genus Spartium. Although related and commonly referred to as Broom, true Genet should not be confused with Cytisus scoparius, Scotch Broom, and commonly also named Broom. As with the best things in life, if the price is too good to be true, it is probably not real — as there are many imitations and synthetics on the market labeled as Genet Absolute. Pure Genet absolute is very costly, as production is extremely limited with 400kg of flowers to render just 100g of precious absolute oil.
Although Genet Absolute is distinctive within the perfume industry, it is well worth noting a recent study citing possible skin care benefits. In a scholarly study (In vitro tyrosinase inhibitory and antioxidant potential of Consolida orientalis, Onosma isauricum and Spartium junceum) published January 2018, "...S. junceum was investigated as a tyrosinase inhibitor for the management of epidermal hyperpigmentation. S. junceum showed promising activity that warrant further studies and could be considered as a potent candidate for the development of phytoremedies for the management of epidermal hyperpigmentation."
We are unable to offer free samples of this precious rare absolute. To familiarize yourself with Genet we recommend purchasing a 1g sample.

It provides many benefits for the skin, including lightening dark spots, improving skin lustre, reducing the appearance of acne or other blemishes, and reducing the appearance of any visible scars.Broom Absolute Oil is also used extensively in aromatherapy and works as a natural sleep aid. Spartium junceum, known as Spanish broom or weaver's broom, is a species of flowering plant in the family Fabaceae, native to the Mediterranean in southern Europe, southwest Asia and northwest Africa, where it is found in sunny sites, usually on dry, sandy soils.
The Latin specific epithet junceum means "rush-like", referring to the shoots, which show a passing resemblance to those of the distantly related, rush genus juncos.
Spartium junceum has been widely introduced into other areas, and is regarded as a noxious invasive species in places with a Mediterranean climate such as California and Oregon, Hawaii, central Chile, southeastern Australia, the Western Cape in South Africa and the Canary Islands and Azores. It was first introduced to California as an ornamental plant.
Broom / Genet Absolute Oil are derived from the flowers of broom shrub. Broom shrubs belong to the group of evergreen, semi-evergreen, and deciduous shrubs of the legume family Fabaceae. It has thick, slender green stems and very small leaves, which are adaptations to dry growing climatic conditions. Most of its species have yellow flowers, but few of its species have white, orange, red, pink or purple flowers. The biggest species of broom is Mount Etna broom which can make a small tree up to the height of 10 m tall. It is used as a food source by the larvae of some species.Genet/Broom, absolute, Italy, Eden Botanicals - Muddy grayish-brown, opaque, very thick, cannot pour it without adding alcohol to dissolve it. Another weird aroma, like tuberose, smells nothing like one would expect a flower to smell. First lime like topknot, then hay like smell, slightly sour tobacco, followed a strong aroma of dried leaves. Genet/Broom: woody, nutty, aromatic, dry, fermented fruit.
Genet Absolute also known as Spanish Broom is a small decorative shrub that from late spring displays small flowers reminiscent visually of sweet pea. The concrete is produced from the fresh flowers and the absolute oil is obtained by solvent extracting the concrete. This absolute oil is golden brown in color and of a waxy consistency that becomes pourable with gentle warmth.
The aroma is sweet, floral fresh with a delicate fruit note comparable to Orange Blossom Absolute entwined with warm herbaceous hay notes and all of good tenacity. Trace amounts of genet will soften, round and intensify floral, fruit and herbal compositions. The world output of this absolute is less than 200 kilos per year, largely because the bushy shrub consists of lots of thick wood, much of it dead and this makes collecting the flowers very challenging and labor intensive.
Benefit & Uses:The plant is used as an ornamental plant in gardens and in landscape plantings. It has gained the Royal Horticultural Society’s Award of Garden Merit.
In Bolivia and Peru, the plant is known as Retama and has become very well established in some areas. It is one of the most common ornamental plants, often seen growing along sidewalks in La Paz.
Retama has made its way into the ethno botany of the indigenous Asmara and Quechua cultures.
The plant is also used as a flavoring and for its essential oil, known as genet absolute. Its fibers have been used for cloth and it produces a yellow dye.
This absolute oil is highly effective in eliminating toxic substances from your body including excess bile, uric acid, fats acids as well as salts.
Due to its floral cologne, it is extensively used in aroma therapy for treating pain, stress, mental fatigue and depression. It is also useful as a color dye.
The Broom Janet flower Absolute is used as Anti-arrhythmic and for cardio tonic, diuretic, hypertensive and narcotic treatment. Having a beautiful floral, tuberose character, it blends well in oriental as well as floral types where it is used in aromatherapy based applications for giving warmth and softness to the body muscles.
HISTORY OF USE
Also known as Spanish broom, it is a species of flowering plant in the family Fabaceae native to the Mediterranean in the south of Europe. Due to its floral aroma, it is extensively used in aromatherapy for treating pain, stress, mental fatigue and depression. As a heraldic device, the Broom was adopted at a very early period as the badge of Brittany. Geoffrey of Anjou thrust it into his helmet at the moment of going into battle, that his troops might see and follow him. As he plucked it from a steep bank which its roots had knit together he is reputed to have said: ‘This golden plant, rooted firmly amid rock, yet upholding what is ready to fall, shall be my cognizance. I will maintain it on the field, in the tourney and in the court of justice.’
