Orange Blossom Absolute, Fine
If you truly love the aroma of orange orchards in bloom on a warm summer evening, then this oil is a must for your aromatic library. The aroma of our extra-fine Moroccan Orange Blossom Absolute is intensely sweet, rich, and warm with a delightful freshness, considering its depth and excellent tenacity, and closely resembles the aroma of fresh bitter orange blossoms. It is a little brighter and sweeter than the Egyptian, but has the same amazing tenacity and intensity of aroma. Particularly when well diluted, Orange Blossom quickly unfolds with incredibly seductive floral notes. It provides a warm floral heart note and adds opulence and depth when paired with the lighter Neroli (historical name for distilled Orange Blossom essential oil). Orange Blossom absolute is a perfumer's specialty oil; intense and quite potent even in low concentrations, this oil is perfect for exotic and ambery scents, and in lending character and depth with amazing tenacity.
Orange Blossom absolute is but one expression of the pure white blossoms of Citrus aurantium var amara, the Bitter Orange tree, a resilient evergreen of the Rutaceae family. Although these are the same flowers that are used to distill Neroli essential oil, Neroli and solvent extracted Orange Blossom absolute are produced using very different processes, rendering fragrance materials with somewhat different aromas and textures. The absolute has a powerful aroma and is more viscous while the essential oil is lighter in color and carries a more delicate aroma. Orange Blossom absolute is very popular for use as a fixative in fine natural perfumery and for the way it perfectly complements other citrus notes, florals, spices and woods.
The aroma of Orange Blossom absolute is greatly defined by the presence of the aromatically sultry, erotic and ‘animalic’ indole. The presence of indole, in stark contrast with the spring maiden and bridal imagery of this pure white flower, perfectly illustrates the blurred lines between virgin beauty and sexy siren.1 Its popularity is legendary – approximately 12% of all modern quality perfumes contain Orange Blossom absolute.2 Low yield and labor-intensive harvesting methods make Orange Blossom a very costly endeavor – only approximately 1 kilo of absolute is extracted from 1,000 kilos of freshly harvested flowers!3
PLEASE NOTE: Orange Blossom Absolute is intended for use in perfumery only. If you are interested in using Orange Blossom/Neroli for aromatherapeutic purposes, please see the high-quality Orange Blossom Organic Extract and Neroli essential oils that we carry.

Neroli Absolute
Citrus aurantium Amara
Extracted from the Bitter Orange Flowers
Welcome to a new oil (or at least from a different producer) for us--this is Orange Blossom, Orange flower, but solvent extracted instead of distilled. This makes a big difference in the olfactory experience; more compounds are extracted in this method--the temperature is lower, and the tenacity is stronger. This is an oil quite suitable for perfumery--it's a bit difficult to work with, but very rewarding.
Arctander says....
Orange flower absolute is a dark brown or dark orange colored, viscous liquid with an intensely floral, heavy, rich, warm, but also delicate and fresh, long lasting odor, closely resembling the odor of fresh bitter orange blossoms
He goes on to say that
This absolute certainly has notes in common with jasmine absolute, it has a much more versatile application as a floral "fond" when used at a comparatively low concentration. It shows pleasant , but peculiar and characteristic, sweet-herbaceous undertone, not unlike the one found in jasmine. It also has a freshness which he says is quite surprising given that it's an extract of such tenacity. He recommends paring this absolute with Neroli essential oil as both oils together will represent more of a complete picture of orange flower, being quite different parts of the total gamut of orange flower fragrance.
This absolute forms excellent combinations with all citrus oils, petitgrain, linalool, and myrrh.
It's also used in flavors as a very universal "bouquet" material with delightful effects in many types of fruit flavor and even peppermint or spearmint
Orange Blossom
Orange blossom, piquantly-scented white,
Traditionally a bride's delight,
A glory budding on the trees,
Such beauty as one rarely sees,
Blossoms displayed in a bridal bouquet,
To make all the lovelier her day, The blossom that will precede the fruit,
That brims with vital attribute, Oranges nestled in leaves of dark green,
The fruit bred of blossom fit for a queen.

This beautiful Neroli Absolute is quite unique in that it is produced from flowers originating from organic cultivation, unlike most absolutes, which are made from conventionally grown neroli blossoms. The fragrance of this oil is especially fine, and perhaps this is because no chemical pesticides and fertilizers were used in the agriculture. This makes it one of the purest absolutes available in the world.

Orange Blossom Absolute Oil
Orange Root Absolutes are usually more concentrated than essential oils. Also, the efficiency and low temperature of the extraction process helps prevent damage to the fragrant compounds. With a good understanding of the solvent they are using, extractors can produce absolutes with aromas closer to the original plant product than is possible with essential oils produced through distillation.
Orange root blossom absolute, also referred to as orange flower absolute, is extracted from the blossoms of the bitter orange tree (Citrus aurantium amara) by means of solvent extraction. It is dark orange in color and much thicker than neroli oil, which is extracted from orange blossoms by a different method.
It belongs to the Rutaceae plant family and is a hardy citrus plant. They are evergreen and grow up to 20 feet in the wild. In cultivation, they will only grow to half this height. The tree bears double leaves, which have a bulge at the base of the main leaf.
Its fruit is used to flavor liqueurs, such as Grand Mariner and Triple sec, and its leaves and twigs provide the petit grain oil (sometimes also called beggared), another aromatic ingredient we use.
It is believed that the tradition of bridal orange blossom garlands started because the fragrance soothed the nerves of the young brides before retiring to the marital bed. It has an intensely floral aroma, and although expensive, it is one of the most popular essential oils used in perfumery.
Use the absolute in many of products and fine fragrances, including our gorgeous moisturizer, refreshing The Olive Branch shower gel and luxurious Prince Triple Orange Blossom shaving cream.
Orange Blossom essential oil is also known as Orange Flower oil or Neroli; the name Neroli is derived from an Italian princess of Nerola who used the essential oil as a perfume, in particular to scent gloves which was the fashion at that particular time in history.
Orange Blossom belongs to the Rutaceae plant family; in aromatherapy, the essential oil of Orange Blossom is steam distilled, or obtained through effleurage, of the fresh flowers of the evergreen Orange tree. The scent of the Orange Blossom flower is rapidly lost, once removed from the tree, so flowers are picked at sun rise, two to three times a week and quickly distilled to maintain the fragrance.
Used in perfumery and aromatherapy, absolutes are similar to essential oils. They are concentrated, highly- aromatic, oily mixtures extracted from plants. Whereas essential oils can typically be produced through steam distillation, absolutes require the use of solvent extraction techniques or more traditionally, through effleurage.
Benefit & Uses: Orange Root Blossom is reputed to be an aphrodisiac with an ability to calm the nerves before any sexual activity. It was used to soothe the nerves of anxious Victorian brides by the placement in both the bridal head dress and in the bridal bouquet; Orange Blossom was said to calm the newly married couple before retiring to the marriage bed. In southern Europe, Orange Blossom flowers are still placed in bridal bouquets.
Orange Root Blossom is frequently used in perfumery work; Orange Root Blossom absolute, produced by the solvent extraction of the fresh Orange Blossom flowers, is used in many expensive fragrances, especially those which are floral, citrus and oriental in fragrance. The distillation of Orange Blossom essential oil produces by-product of Orange flower water; both Orange flower water and Orange Blossom oil are used in the flavoring of pharmaceutical products.
Orange Root Blossom is anti-bacterial, digestive, anti-depressive, anti-septic, a deodorant and an aphrodisiac; it is used to treat depression, shock, anxiety, hysteria, insomnia, fatigue, colitis, varicose veins and hypertension. Orange Blossom is also very useful in skin care; it rejuvenates the complexion and improves very dry or mature skin.
In the west it is used aroma therapeutically to alleviate depression, soothe anxiety, hysteria and nervous conditions. As a light, refreshing, uplifting fragrance, it is used to alleviate a variety of psychological states including insomnia, anxiety and depression. It is known to help treat diarrhea, and some aroma therapists use it to treat a broad range of menopausal issues.
