Судороги, связанные с чрезмерным употреблением эфирных масел камфоры и эвкалипта

Чрезмерное использование эфирных масел, богатых камфорой и цинеолом может привести к судорогам, хотя повседневное использование этих масел обычно считается безопасным для здорового человека. Мировой рынок эфирных масел стремительно рос, достигнув 17 миллиардов долларов в 2017 году и, по прогнозам, достигнет 27 миллиардов долларов к 2022 году, при этом наибольшая доля принадлежит Европе.


Из 55 пациентов в исследовании, у которых было установлено, что у них были судороги, связанные с эфирными маслами, 40% из них никогда раньше не испытывали приступов, поэтому исследователи сочли, что их судороги были вызваны эфирным маслом. И у 60% из них в анамнезе были судороги, поэтому их припадок считался спровоцированным эфирным маслом. Возраст пациентов составлял от 8 месяцев до 77 лет, хотя большинство из них были взрослыми.
